Why can't I communicate with the Notecard over USB from my Windows 7 machine?

VERSION 20201209.1

Download Device Driver

The Notecard USB Windows device driver for pre-Windows 10 is packaged with the Notecard CLI application.

  1. Visit the releases page of the note-go repository

  2. Download any of the Windows Notecard CLI ZIP-files (must be v1.4.4 or later)

  3. Unzip the downloaded file

Install Device Driver

  1. Plug in the Notecard via USB to the Windows 7 machine and wait a few minutes for Windows to fail to install drivers (no warnings appear, but it is happening)

  2. Open Windows Device manager

  3. Navigate to “Other Devices” and you should see “Notecard”

  4. Select Notecard and right click -> Update Driver Software

  5. Click “Browse my computer for driver software”

  6. Search for driver software in this location: - select folder where you unzipped the downloaded archive

  7. Select “Next”

When Windows warns “Windows can’t verify the publisher of this driver …” select “Install this driver software anyway”

Note

If this process fails and produces an error message, please unplug the Notecard from the USB port and try again.

We have seen retrying the installation process work.
